PROGRESS REPORT OF THE TANGKHUL NAGA SOCIETY, DELHI (TNSD)

The 3rd N.E. R.N. Tamchon Football Trophy to compete for Rs. 3 Lakhs from Oct. 30- Nov. 21, 2009 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi. The first runner-up will be awarded Rs. 2 Lakhs while the 3rdposition will get Rs. 1 Lakh. Individual Prizes- Man of the Tournament will get Rs. 25, 000, Best Striker Rs. 20, 000, Best Midfielder Rs. 20, 000, Best Defender Rs. 20, 000, Best Goalkeeper Rs. 20, 000 and the Best Coach will be awarded Rs. 20, 000 only.

The TANKHUL NAGA SOCIETY, DELHI (TNSD) is a registered body (Societies Registration Act, 1860) set up inter-alia for fostering good relations among different cultural communities in the national Capital of India. One of its objectives is to promote cultural and sports activities among the youths belonging to the north eastern region and also look into the welfare of various communities in Delhi. Since its inception on September 30, 2006, the TNSD has undertaken some notable and commendable activities in Delhi which are mention below:

The first TNSD’s Foundation Day was held on December 2, 2006 at the Community Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. The occasion was inaugurated by Rishang Keishing, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and the Advisor to the Society. The first Executive Council consisting of 19 members were democratically and unanimously elected by members present on that day.

Games & Sports

The TNSD has organised the first R.N. Tamchon Memorial Football Tournament at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi from Nov. 15 – Dec. 1, 2007. Sixteen teams from different north eastern communities participated in the tournament. The final match which was played between Wung United and Ching-Tam United was played on 1st December 2007. The Trophy was honourably lifted by the Wung United from Ukhrul district of Manipur. The first runner-up was the Delhi Mizo Zillai Pawl from Mizoram.  The first R.N. Tamchon Memorial Football Trophy was inaugurated by Mr. Oscar Fernandes, the then Minister of State for Labour & Employment while Mr. Deepak Mishra, the then Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, was the Guest of Honour. The opening ceremony was attended by many dignitaries of the region and officers of different departments of Delhi. The 15 days events ended with the closing ceremony graced by Mr. Mani Charenamei, the then Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha. Mr. Rishang Keishing, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and former Chief Minister of Manipur gave away the prizes to the winning teams.

The 2nd R.N. Tamchon Memorial Football Tournament was held from Oct. 11- Oct. 25 2008 at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium, New Delhi. Sixteen teams from various north east communities participated in the tournament. The final match was played between Zeliangrong Football Club and Hmar Students’ Association, Delhi, of which the Trophy was lifted by the Zeliangrong Football Club. The 2nd R.N. Tamchon Memorial Football Tournament was inaugurated by Gegong Apang, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh while Rajesh Kumar, the then Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi and Subhas Chobra, the then Member of Legislative Assembly, Delhi, President of the Delhi Soccer Association were the Guest of Honours. The event was brightened by the Tangkhul Naga War Dance performed by 60 professionals from Ukhrul district of Manipur. The 15 days event ended with the closing function graced by Sachin Pilot, Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha as Chief Guest and Mani Charenamei, the then Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha as Special Guest.
